Around Town ~ KJ's Boutique

     

    Just over a year ago, KJ's Boutique opened its doors at 214 Main Street, bringing children's fashion to downtown. The sister store to Marlene's Sass and Class, KJ's was named after owner Marlene's first granddaughter's nickname — a sweet tribute that turned into a thriving business. Shoppers can visit in person Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or browse anytime at www.shopkjsboutique.com.

The idea for KJ's took root years earlier. Shortly after Marlene's opened more than eight years ago, customers kept asking for children's and tween clothing. When Marlene's first grandbaby was on the way, and the building next door happened to come available, KJ's Boutique was born. Today the store carries girls' sizes from newborn through tween (14/16) and boys' sizes from newborn through 7/8, with newborn items quickly becoming customer favorites.

Clothing is only part of the story. KJ's also stocks toys and squishies, including Discovery Toys; a popular educational brand you won't find in big department stores. Whether you're looking for a thoughtful gift or a cute new outfit, it's an easy stop for the kids in your life.

Marlene has also made sure shopping with little ones in tow is easy. A dedicated play area with books, toys, and movies keeps kids entertained while parents browse. That attention to experience extends to the staff, personal shoppers are on hand to help customers find just the right piece for any occasion.

Many of the items at KJ's are one-of-a-kind finds you won't see at corporate retailers, including matching outfit sets for moms and their kids that are especially popular for holidays and family photos, and tend to sell out fast, so it pays to shop early.

KJ's also hosts a regular lineup of community events, many of them free. Storytime with Kate is a favorite, along with craft and painting projects for tweens led by Babrae McFarlin (a small fee covers supplies). Seasonal events have included Valentine's bath bomb making, egg decorating, ornament decorating, and visits from the Easter Bunny and Santa. Kids who love the spotlight can stop by to "model" new outfits for the shop, while parents can head to the Hat Bar to personalize their own trucker hat.

As football season approaches, KJ's is the place to find cheer outfits, not just in Sulphur Springs colors, but for surrounding area schools too. Check back this fall for costumes and "make-believe" play outfits, and watch for holiday pajama sets arriving in September.

Around Town ~ Pink Brizilia

     

    This month we stopped in to visit with one of the newer boutique owners in Sulphur Springs.  Shelly De La Rosa, owner of Pink Brizilia.  After working in construction with her husband, Shelly decided that she wanted to branch out on her own and open a boutique featuring women’s clothing.  Fast forward four years later, and you can now find her boutique in downtown Sulphur Springs.  While she might miss working with her husband on a daily basis she is excited about her boutique and sharing it with all of her customers.  

After all, variety is the spice of life and downtown shopping has seen lots of changes and evolution in the shops over time.  One of the new additions to downtown Sulphur Springs shopping is Pink Brizilia.  The boutique is located at 220 Connally Street, Suite A, with hours Monday - Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Of course you can find great deals twenty-four/seven on their website at www.pinkbrizilia.com.  They even offer local, free pick-up with online orders there at the store, saving their customers money on shipping.  

Shelly is the owner and founder of Pink Brizilia and has had a storefront for almost four years, when she started her business in Mount Vernon.  Six months ago she made the move to downtown Sulphur Springs and has fallen in love with the location, warm welcome and the people.  Her overall goal for the store is for her customers “to know God the way she does and to be a blessing to those who walk into her boutique.”  When a customer walks in you are welcomed by her or her clerk and soft music, and beautiful clothing. 

Her clothing line is very unique compared to other boutiques in the area.  She offers modest attire and different collections for her customers, as well as clothing with bold patterns and colors.  Her favorite line has to be the dresses she offers.  From Maxi, Midi, and Mini, she offers dresses of all different lengths for a variety of occasions.  There is a dress for everyone at her boutique.

Now some of you may be wondering where she came up with the name for her boutique, Pink Brizilia. To start, pink is her favorite color so that was easy and Brizilia is her mother’s and daughter’s name. Add them together and you get Pink Brizilia. Family and God run deep in her store and heart so it was only natural for her boutique to be named after those she loves. 

Shelly is looking forward to an amazing fall and some wonderful new lines that they will be offering soon. At The Oaks Bed and Breakfast, Everything Unique helped us fill our shelves with beautiful items in our great room for guests to enjoy or purchase. As with life, Everything Unique has seen change over the years and has adapted to welcome in new products and services to help serve their customers.

Steve and Carrie Nuckolls have owned Everything Unique for the last ten years and have been the driving force behind the changes made in store as shopping and dining habits of their customers have adapted over time.

One of my favorite pastimes is going in to see what each year’s theme will be and what their nutcracker selection will look like each year. Around Town ~ Millhollin

    

Downtown Sulphur Springs, Texas has a myriad of shops and dining opportunities for visitors to enjoy when dropping in for a visit, and we stopped into Millhollin for our “Around Town” visit this month. Located at 222 Main Street and open Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p. m, Millhollin is a unique shop that has been wonderfully curated with a diverse product offering. 

     Current owner, Charity Pepys, truly loves the customer service side of her business and finding items to fill the shop that sparks an interest for visitors. Her store is more about creating an experience when people come in and feel that they have stepped out of Sulphur Springs and into the city, or on to the board walk of an East Coast beach town. Each item offered in Millhollin is unique and original that brings meaning to the store and the customers who purchase the items.

    

     The bulk of the items available is apparel, making up “timeless in the closet capsule wardrobe pieces.” These are items that individuals need for everyday wear and are easy to mix and match to complement what customers already have in their closets. Along with unique gift items, household essentials that are beautiful as well as functional, there are beauty, jewelry, gifts, and so much more. 

     Many of the items within the shop also have meaning outside their product line. Multiple companies, give back to charities that are meaningful to the current owners, while still offering quality products. Serving the community and supporting charities is at the heart of their business. Having a family history of retail store in a small community and from studying retail design, all her skills have helped to make Millhollin successful. 

     One of my favorite features of Millhollin is their store front windows. The front windows are always ready for the season. They reflect the store items and time of the year so well, I love to swing by and see what might be new in the window.
