Around Town ~ Miss Behavin

Twenty-Twenty changed many things and one great thing that changed was Miss Behavin moved to the square.  County Court offices moved to a new facility and a large space opened up on the square.  Miss Behavin took over a large part while the Chamber of Commerce occupied the rest.  They are open Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Their website is www.missbehavinss.com.  You can shop there anytime you need.

Miss Behavin has been in Sulphur Springs since 2010 and is owned by Chris and Lis Childress.  They started out at the VF Outlet mall, grew an online presence and moved downtown.  It’s been a great adventure that has been made even better because of their customers and community.

Community is important to Miss Behavin, you can pretty much expect their support at major local events in the city and county.  They provide support to all the county schools when requested and feel it’s important to being part of the community as a whole.

When you stop by Miss Behavin you can find something for multiple people on your lists.  Even those new baby boys.  While they feature mainly girls and women clothing, their junior department is a huge hit.  With customers coming from all over the State and even out of state while visiting Sulphur Springs.  The move from the VF mall did not deter the customers who loved their store, now they just have more reasons to visit Sulphur Springs because of the new location.

You can find casual dress options, along with Sunday dinner items inside. Plus, a selection of jeans and shorts to help keep your wardrobe well rounded.  Spice it up with a cute pair of shoes from their selection and top it off with a necklace or hat.  We are sure that you can find a new piece to add to your wardrobe or start new with a little makeover.

Sizes range from baby to curvy and everything in between.  Be sure to check out their social media and website for new pieces that are hitting the shelves.  Your style can expand and grow at Miss Behavin.  Their staff is friendly and inviting to each customer and they keep up with current fashion trends to make sure you do as well.  Stop in to grab your summer finds and bring your friends.

Some of my favorite holiday pieces have come from Everything Unique over the years.

Bring your group of friends, men and women alike for a fun shopping trip to downtown Sulphur Springs to find the perfect item for yourself, a loved one or to enjoy a great glass of wine while browsing. Some of their best-selling items are related to the wine bar. The beautiful charcuterie boards, spicy bacon jam or cocktail mixers are crowd favorites. Do you want to up your charcuterie game, grab one of amazing cookbooks to better enhance your guest experience at your next dinner party.

Do you need a gift that will be loved at your next bunco or party night, look no further than their hilarious kitchen towels or devotional book selection. Around Town ~ Millhollin

Downtown Sulphur Springs, Texas has a myriad of shops and dining opportunities for visitors to enjoy when dropping in for a visit, and we stopped into Millhollin for our “Around Town” visit this month. Located at 222 Main Street and open Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p. m, Millhollin is a unique shop that has been wonderfully curated with a diverse product offering.

Current owner, Charity Pepys, truly loves the customer service side of her business and finding items to fill the shop that sparks an interest for visitors. Her store is more about creating an experience when people come in and feel that they have stepped out of Sulphur Springs and into the city, or on to the board walk of an East Coast beach town. Each item offered in Millhollin is unique and original that brings meaning to the store and the customers who purchase the items.

The bulk of the items available is apparel, making up “timeless in the closet capsule wardrobe pieces.” These are items that individuals need for everyday wear and are easy to mix and match to complement what customers already have in their closets. Along with unique gift items, household essentials that are beautiful as well as functional, there are beauty, jewelry, gifts, and so much more.

Many of the items within the shop also have meaning outside their product line. Multiple companies, give back to charities that are meaningful to the current owners, while still offering quality products. Serving the community and supporting charities is at the heart of their business. Having a family history of retail store in a small community and from studying retail design, all her skills have helped to make Millhollin successful.

One of my favorite features of Millhollin is their store front windows. The front windows are always ready for the season. They reflect the store items and time of the year so well, I love to swing by and see what might be new in the window. If you have not been inside or seen the windows be sure to stop by and check it out.

We are sure that you will be able to find something for a loved one, teacher or spouse or friend. Each season holds something new, so be sure to drop by often to find your next great gift. A cook book, candle or a new pair of jeans to add to your wardrobe, maybe in your future.

Around Town ~ Vintage, Treasure and Finds!

A new way of shopping has hit Sulphur Springs full force. Vendor shops are not a new trend but are definitely on the rise. Vintage, Treasure and Finds is one such shop that recently opened this past February at 325 S. Davis Street. The owner, Judy Heilman is no stranger to the retail shop business but she has adopted this new model in her most recent endeavor.

Vintage, Treasure and Finds is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This shop is located across the street from The Rail Yard and The Produce Stand on Davis Street just North of the Railroad tracks.

Over sixteen vendors have their wares in the new shop and what a great collection of options to choose from. Each vendor purchases and maintains a booth spot inside the shop which allows for the daily management from Judy and her business partner.

I know you might be wondering what is different from this shop space compared to the others in town with a similar business model. Well I would say the majority of items offered at Vintage, Treasure, and Finds are antique. Used books, classic games, vintage kitchen ware and so much more adorn the spaces in the shop.

Judy saw a need for a shop like this in Sulphur Springs and really wanted to bring the idea from Winnsboro to consumers here locally. Mostly women vendors and a few couples, operate the spaces inside. The booth rentals allow the vendors to display items for sale and not have the same overhead as from a typical brick and mortar store. It allows for people to see if what they have to offer is what the people want to purchase. So far the store has been having great success. With the vendor booths spots full, they have a wait list for when someone leaves.

This Saturday they are having a sidewalk sale with additional vendors popping up for your shopping experience. This outdoor market will be open from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday, May 18. Be sure to play to stop by and find something wonderful from their selection of outdoor decor, plants and so much more. They accept cash, check or credit cards on any purchase made at the store. There is no excuse to stay away, we hope to see you there.

Around Town ~ Market on Main

Downtown Sulphur Springs, Texas has so many great shopping options for everyone on your list or in your family.  One of the newer spots to hit up is The Market on Main.  Located at 213 Main Street, this unique shop is full of gift ideas and shopping fun.  Not only can you experience freeze dried candy, but clothing, kitchen items and so much more.  The Market on Main is home to not just one vendor but over seventeen (17) women owned stores.  They are open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 – 6 and have plans to extend Friday and Saturday hours during the summer days.

Not only can you shop while you visit the Market on Main, it is also home to Masterpiece Ultrasound, were you can view your baby in 4D.  The sweet baby faces can be viewed from 6 weeks to 36 weeks, with 30-32 weeks being the ideal time to view the best “chubby face” images while on the inside.

Bring the whole family to see those baby faces and then pick out the best baby or mom gift while in the shop.  The Market on Main has something for everyone.  Recently the shop has changed hands and welcomed a new owner.  They are currently at capacity for vendors but you can always put your name on a list if you are not yet ready to take the plunge into a full shop of your own.

Let your creativity flow when you stop by the Market on Main and find many local, handcrafted gifts among those curated by the ladies who each create their space for the goods that they display.  Along with the small shops a local photographer hosts mini sessions on site and currently has a Spring or Easter display ready to capture images of your cute little bunnies heading into the Spring season.

The Market on Main brings together women from all over Hopkins County who would otherwise might not be able to share their goods with the public in such a way as a physical store front. While some might have an online presence this shopping experience brings out a wider audience to their unique brand and products.

While shopping next time downtown, be sure to stop by the Market on Main to find something worth taking home or gifting to a friend.  Do not forget about baby, they offer adorable Easter outfits for your little ones.  Share with us your wonderful finds from the Market on Main and keep your support and shopping local.

Travel East Texas ~ Cooper

Just fifteen minutes North of Sulphur Springs and The Oaks bed and breakfast lies the bedroom community of Cooper, Texas.  The best part about Cooper is the State Park.  Before you hit the park be sure to pop downtown and grab a cup of coffee or cappuccino from Vetch.  Vetch is a cute coffee shop with a little bit of a farmers market vibe going on.  They offer fresh veggies and meat from local farmers along with condiments and other items for purchase along side your caffeine option of choice.

There are just a few places to drop in for other shopping with in the square.  A little boutique called Rosie and Co, right off the square and an antique shop.  I would have missed Rosie's had they not set out mannequins on the sidewalk.  Rosie & Co, has lots of great options and styles that fit the season.  The Antique shop has a great selection of items that you could spend  hours browsing through to find exactly what you want.

The dining options are very few, just the coffee shop and Tejano's Tex-Mex.  Tejano's was a popular stop for all the locals who happend to be downtown.  But make sure they remember you are there, otherwise you have to ask to be served.  I was suprised to see that they had a guacmole enchilada with a spinach enchilada option on the lunch menu.  It's always nice to be able to order food and not have to make changes to fit your needs.  I will say downtown Cooper does have a super cute, walking book "tour" to read while wandering around the square.  A children's book has been placed around the square on little podiums and made to be protected from the weather.  It's a cute way to keep readers engaged and provide a creative way to exercise while reading.

Cooper Lake State Park is the perfect spot to spend the day.  Pack a pinic lunch and hit the trails.  The State Park has great hiking trails and shore line for all your outdoor needs.  Plus the park is always hosting events that are fun for the whole family.  Be sure to check out their website for more information on activities and adventures you can have while staying with us at The Oaks bed and breakfast, while exploring the outdoors.  Grab a fishing pole, binoculars and lunch and spend the day exploring Cooper Lake State Park.

Travel East Texas ~ Mt. Pleasant

This month in our Travel East Texas exploration, we stopped over in Mt. Pleasant, Texas for a swing around their downtown area to see what there is to do and explore, when visiting their city.  In 1993 Mount Pleasant was selected by the Texas Historical Commission to become an official Texas Main Street City, which is a designation in downtown to a nine block radius.  Mt. Pleasant boasts two large events during the year, the first ever Pinefest a celebration of outdoor recreation on April 28, and Boots and Bells a Christmas festival, held November 5 - December 23.  Through out the year, different organizations and the Chamber of Commerce also hold events for residents and visitors alike.

In our exploration downtown we found Laura's Cheesecake, and let us tell you, with the variety of cheesecake offered everyone in your group is sure to go home with or enjoy a tasty treat.  You can purchase cheesecake by the slice or a whole cake to eat and enjoy later.  They also offer a varied lunch menu for visitors with plenty of space in their seating area to find a spot to stop in for a meal.

Downtown also plays host to the court house of Titus County.  The court house sits in the center of downtown with the streets moving in a one way direction around the building.  The modern looking structure can't be missed when visiting downtown.

As you make your way around downtown you can eat and shop for everyone on your list.  There are a variety of shops with a myriad of options to bring home with you on  your visit.  We popped into Seasons to check out what they had and just loved the variety in their store.  Plus they have a Christmas shop built right in so you can always find a new holiday décor item anytime of the year.

A few place to eat around downtown is Jo's and Nardello's, who happens to have a great alfresco dinning space on the side of their building.  One of our favorite places to eat happens to be off of the freeway, Thai Lanna's.  Their menu is varied and a great find for East Texas, for something a little different than Bar B Que or Tex-Mex.  Thai Lanna is always a great stop for lunch or dinner when in the area.

One of Mt. Pleasants real claim to fame beyond, Pilgrim's and Priefert is Sweet Shop USA.  A family owned and operated, handmade chocolatier with their factory and store serving over 7,000 retailers nationwide.  You definitely want to make the Sweet Shop one of your stops while in town to sample and purchase their delicious and mouthwatering chocolate to take back for friends and family, or maybe just as your midnight snack.

If you are looking to explore and have a more mindful adventure, you should be sure to stop by the Mid America Flight Museum.  They are only opened on Saturday from 8-12, so plan your trip accordingly, but take flight with this location and learn about some amazing warbirds who made history in America.

There are plenty of things to occupy your day in Mt. Pleasant, and we hope that our little exploration can help you plan your trip.  We try to find the unique and fun experience for your travels.  Until next time travel safe and enjoy your visit.

Travel East Texas ~ Mt. Vernon

Just fifteen minutes East of Sulphur Springs is Mt. Vernon, Texas.  A little spot away from the big city life, where you can stop into downtown and find a few good places to eat and cute places to shop for just the right item on your list.  The city is working hard to renovate their downtown to bring life back to the city, with local shops and eateries.  We found a few that you  might want to stop by while visiting Sulphur Springs.

The Chop House if a wonderful stop for dinner while visiting the area.  The hours of operation are from 5-10 p.m. each night except for Sunday.  You can make a reservation on the website, if you are traveling with a large group or small group.  We highly recommend making a reservation, especially on the weekend so that you can dine when you want to.  They have a good selection in their bar for mixed drinks and wine.

Plan to stop by during lunch, be sure to check out the other dinning options such as 5B Burger Co, Sweet Home Texas, or Steve-O's Pizza.  Each location offers a little different taste depending on what you are looking for to dine on.

Before or after you eat be sure to check out the shops along the square.  There is a little bit of something for everyone.  One boutique ranges from baby gifts, to men's clothing.  There is another cute shop that features women's clothing but where you can also order flowers for any special occasion.

Mount Vernon is the county seat for Franklin County and happens to house the court house on the square as well.  Along with the library and a couple of museums that are just off of the square.  Be sure to check out the websites for the museums, to verify hours of operation.  Covid has played a difficult part in limiting operating hours at some of these local establishments.

One of the city's highlights is the Mt. Vernon Food and Wine festival that will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022.  This festival features amazing Texas wines and food from all over the state.  Food, music and wine, who could ask for more.  Be sure to check out this great East Texas event.

Grab your bike and come out to support the Rotary Club of Mt. Vernon in their annual Tour de Cypress Bike Ride.   This ride can be taken in any number of lengths, as determined by your fitness level.  Bring the whole family out to have fun and get a little sun and exercise on Saturday, April 16, you can register by clicking this link.

To top off your Mt. Vernon adventure don't forget to check out the Johnson Photo Print Studio.  For $12.95 per person you can enter their wonderfully curated studio and take all the selfie photos you want with your friends, family and the people you meet.  This is a great way to be social in a fun environment and make some lasting memories.  Be sure to check out the Main Street Alliance web page for more information on what is happening in the downtown Mt. Vernon area.  There is so much exciting stuff going on, that you might not want to miss out.
